Kansas State Wildcats Football

The Kansas State Wildcats play in the NCAA Division-I league Big 12 conference North division. The Wildcats represent Kansas State University a large land-grant college in Manhattan, Kansas. The Kansas State Wildcats had their premier season in 1893, playing their first game on Thanksgiving Day against St. Mary's Academy. The team enjoyed sustained success through the 1920's and 1930's thanks in large part to excellent athletes who attended the school midst the depression. The next several decades were sad for the Kansas State Wildcats who became one of the worst teams in NCAA college football history, in fact in 1989 the team was statistically the worst team in the NCAA Division-I league with a record of 299-504-41, they were also the first Division-I team to lose over 500 games.

Reason for Hope

Things were looking down for the Kansas State Wildcats, but then the university hired Head Coach Bill Snyder to replace Stan Parrish after the 1988 season. The Bill Snyder era at Kansas State is recognized by sports historians as one of the greatest comebacks and rebuilding efforts in all of sports. In 1991 a mere 3 seasons after being hired, Wildcats Coach Bill Snyder turned out a 7-4 winning season, something Kansas State Wildcats hadn't seen in years. Then in 1993 Coach Snyder led the Kansas State Wildcats to their first post-season bowl game victory. By the end of his career as Wildcats Head Coach at the conclusion of the 2005 football season, Bill Snyder had turned the Wildcats around and reminded Kansas State fans why they wore the purple and gray Kansas Sate Wildcats jerseys and cheered for Willie the Wildcat.

The Ron Prince Era

After Coach Bill Snyder retired, Ron Prince was hired to be the new head coach. Kansas State Wildcat Coach Ron Prince led the team to the Texas Bowl in 2006 and a 2007 victory against Top-10 ranked Texas. After a slow down that started at the end of the 2007 Wildcats football season and ran through the 2008 season, Kansas State University announced they would not be asking Coach Prince to return. To the excitement of all Wildcats fans it was announced in November of 2008 that former coach Bill Snyder would be returning to coach the Wildcats.
